Honda Homesteading

Tues., Sept. 6th, ---Funny thing about moving out to the country...You aren't necessarily guaranteed all the creature comforts you've been accustomed to. (Even though you are guaranteed some new creatures.) We found out that our phone service does not have internet service in our area. So, we've been off the 'net for a few weeks. One of the other service providers requires a clear line of vision between our house and their tower. Well, we barely have a clear line of vision out to the barn! Our gentle rolling and heavily wooded terrain prohibit us from that service. However, we get more TV channels on the digital antenna than we did in town. Don't be alarmed, we will get internet service soon.

UPDATE--We are in our new house and most of our belongings are in there too!

Oh, for the love of our Hondas!!! We have found that you can accomplish alot more than one might think if you have a CR-V, a ATV, and a trailer. We have pushed the CR-V and the Recon into pretty heavy service around the Branterosa. For the most part, we moved all our belongings with our car and our 6 ft trailer. The exceptions were the too-close-to-exciting move of the '66 Fairlane and the too-close-to-back-breaking move of the piano. It's a good thing we have smart friends with bigger trailers!

The CR-V has also earned us a little cash as Jason hauled a couple of trailer loads of scrap metal to the steel yard. He has many more piles to clean up and pick up. It's sort of like recyling on steroids.

Miranda's yellow 4 wheeler has also found it's place of service. We don't have a tractor or a truck yet, so the Recon has had to make due. It has towed junk out of the brush...it's hauled the trailer around...it's pulled a borrowed mower....it recently pulled Jason's home made drag to smooth the drive and pick up rocks. It's proven to be a champ!

We know we'll have to get "real" farmer/rancher/logger equipment at some point, but hey, with a couple of Hondas, we're not in too big of a rush.
